Employee Retention

According to Pam Backer and Shaun Sutner (2003), Employee retention is the organization's objective of retaining productive and talented people while minimizing turnover by creating a great work environment that promotes engagement, recognizing employees, offering competitive compensation and benefits, and encouraging a healthy work-life balance.

Employers are especially concerned about keeping staff during times of low unemployment and increased competition for talent. To retain employees, firms utilize human resources technology for recruiting, on boarding, engaging, and rewarding employees, as well as providing more work flexibility and contemporary perks such as physical and financial wellness programs.

Organizations need to keep their best employees around to thrive. This is the goal of employee retention. Employee retention refers to the strategies an organization develops to mitigate employee turnover risks and the processes it puts in place to retain its critical talent. Employee retention is a leading challenge for organizations and HR departments today. (Marc Holliday,March 9,2021).

As stated by Eveling Jacobse (2023),Employee retention is a process or set of activities aimed at retaining employees in a company. The aim of employee retention is to reduce fluctuation and create a stable workforce. Many factors can influence employee retention, e.g. pay, benefits, working conditions, job satisfaction, and development opportunities for employees. There are many ways to measure employee retention. The most common is voluntary turnover, ie the number of employees who leave a company voluntarily.

As such it can conclude that, Employee Retention is described as an organization's capacity to avoid employee turnover, which is the number of individuals who quit their jobs voluntarily or involuntarily during a certain time period.
